STRUCT-TRUE-VALUE - Link columns may only hold the value true (B_02.03, B_03.01, B_03.03)

A Link column cell (trueItemType) holds a value other than true. Only the exact lower-case literal true passes, and an empty cell does not fire this check.

Official control text (EBA, verbatim)

trueItemType must be reported with true value

Source: EBA technical check 333 (sheet "DPM Technical Checks", category "DPM Technical Checks" in the official overview of the RoI technical checks). The RoI Builder runs it as structural check STRUCT-TRUE-VALUE.

Note on the official control text: the EBA artifact publishes this text with a double space before "true". The page documents the text exactly as published; the check runs exactly as published.

What this rule checks

The check covers the model:trueItemType columns. Measured in eba-4.0-errata5, these are exactly three Link columns: c0030 in B_02.03 (List of intra-group contractual arrangements), c0030 in B_03.01 and c0031 in B_03.03 - the c0031 code is verbatim from the taxonomy. Selection is metadata-driven via the column's preserved XBRL type, never a hardcoded column list.

A filled cell in these columns may only carry the canonical literal true - false or anything else is one blocking finding per cell. This check does not fire on an empty cell. Whether the cell may stay empty is decided by the key checks (K-805) and W2 requiredness, not here. Emptiness of key columns is a different check (STRUCT-MANDATORY); conditional requiredness of data columns is W2 business (warnings).

The format side of the same columns is STRUCT-BOOLEAN-FORMAT (EBA check 332): a value like yes violates both checks independently.

Only lower-case true passes. The taxonomy defines this column type in model.xsd as trueItemType, restricted by the lexical facet <pattern value="true"/>. A lexical facet matches the literal text, so TRUE, True and 1 are rejected even though a human reads all of them as the same value. EBA technical check 333 states it as: "trueItemType must be reported with true value" (the double space is verbatim).

Where the confusion comes from is documented, not guessed. Two official EBA sources write the value in upper case. The DPM annotated table layout prints TRUE, and the ESAs FAQ of 28 March 2025 (question 35) writes it as (TRUE) while saying that "Financial entities should ignore this column in DPM annotated tables as nothing is required to be reported there." So a reporter who copies the value from either document, exactly as printed, gets a rejection from the validator.

What this means in practice. If you fill the cell, type true in lower case. Do not copy TRUE from the annotated layout or from the FAQ. And note that the FAQ's advice to ignore the column entirely is not the same statement as this check - this check only says what a filled cell may contain.

This is a structural check (STRUCT layer, severity: blocking). If it fails, the package is technically rejected on receipt (feedbackMain = REJECTED). The structural layer is the only layer that blocks a filing.

Most common causes

  • false was entered to say "no link" - the artifact's convention is: true when the link applies. What to do when it does not apply is not settled by this check.
  • A yes/no or 1/0 convention from an internal sheet was pasted into the Link column.
  • A value from a neighbouring column landed in the Link column after a column shift.

How to fix it, step by step

  1. Open the flagged template (B_02.03, B_03.01 or B_03.03) and find the row - the finding gives the row number and the key values.
  2. If the link applies to this row, enter true (lowercase) in the flagged cell (c0030 or c0031).
  3. If the link does not apply, clear the cell - do not write false.
  4. Run the validation again and confirm the finding is gone.

Example: fails vs passes

Fails - false is not an allowed value of a trueItemType column; the finding points at column c0030 of this B_03.01 row:

c0010 (Contractual arrangement reference number) c0020 (LEI of the entity signing the contractual arrangement) c0030 (Link)
CTR-1 549300Q5EH2NP82EPE32 false

Passes - true:

c0010 c0020 c0030 (Link)
CTR-1 549300Q5EH2NP82EPE32 true

Also passes (edge case) - an empty c0030 cell: this check does not fire on it. That is a statement about THIS check, not a ruling that the cell may be submitted empty.

  • STRUCT-BOOLEAN-FORMAT - the format check on the same three Link columns; a non-boolean value violates both checks independently.
  • STRUCT-MANDATORY - emptiness of key columns is checked there; in the Link columns this check does not fire on an empty cell, and requiredness is decided elsewhere.

Fix it in the RoI Builder - it points at the exact row and cell and re-checks as you type.
